House Cleaning and Twitter Updates

We've done a little house cleaning with our update page. Here are the old updates. Going forward, you'll find the latest update on this page with older updates listed below under "Latest Updates."

You'll also see a Twitter widget on the right. We've been updating Twitter with our latest review/moderation status. So if you wondering were we are in the moderation queue, just check out the Twitter updates to find out.

Another place to check for submission status is "Your Submissions" page, found in your profile page. We'll also occasionally leave a message for you on this page. Check out FAQ #3 to find out more about our moderation process.

Finally, we've exposed our categories below. We'll find a more prominent place for them on the homepage soon (along with moving search from the footer). Thanks for visiting and gawking!

With TasteSpotting up again, we've had a lot of questions about whether we would keep the site up. The answer is yes, as long as you continue to submit great photos, we'll keep posting and going!

I need a little help, what more important when resizing, having them close to the 250 x 250 size or the file size? thanks

@myplatemyworld Having it close to 250x250 is only recommended so you have control of image composition. If it's larger, we'll automatically crop it to the center 250x250 pixels. Maybe, we're making a too big of a deal on re-sizing. Just submit your best quality images under the maximum file size. Our image cropper generally does a good job re-sizing the image.

Please don't leave us. I like your site much better than tastespotting because I can do more like search and save my favorites. Your A#1 and the site I look forward to logging onto to start and end my days.

I'm confused a bit about the cropping still - it seems like there is combination of resizing and cropping going on, but I can't predict it. I believe (the old) tastespotting method was to resize the image down so the short side was 250 px, then take the center 250x250 crop - which was predictable. Can you explain the algorithm in detail so I can adapt to it better?

    Thanks,
    Michael

Michael, somehow we didn't see your question until now. Our cropper does it the way you described... resize the shorter side to 250px and then crop 250x250 pixels centered. 99% of the time we'll take what our cropper does, but occasionally we'll manually crop the image for better composition, especially if the food was not centered in the picture. Let us know if you have anymore questions.

Hopefully, we'll have our preview up soon and you'll be able to see and change the image before hitting submit.
