New Look and Feel

First off, we want to thank everyone for visiting and submitting their photos to foodgawker. The last 2 1/2 weeks have been crazy, exciting, amazing and very rewarding. We started as a TasteSpotting (TS) clone when it went down, but with your support, we've gradually established our own identity.

Out of respect for Jean Aw of NOTCOT, who has given us tremendous support (thank you!!!), we've updated our look and feel to further establish our identity and not copy the design of the original TasteSpotting and Liqurious (great site for drinks BTW).

We re-designed the site pretty quickly and we'll continue to tweak it over the next few days and weeks. We thought it was important to make this change immediately and establish foodgawker as more than a TS clone.

Over the next few weeks we plan on enhancing the site to improve the user experience for people just visiting/gawking and for those of you who submit your wonderful pictures. Again, thank you so much for your support! And let us know how we can continue improving the site.

If you are interested in the details, here are a few notes about the redesign...

  1. Search is now in the header and footer. The search in the header does not search by submitter. You'll have to go to the footer for that. The radio buttons didn't look nice in the header, so we've omitted search by submitter up top. We'll come up with a better presentation shortly.
  2. Categories, random posts and site updates are now displayed in the footer. We will definitely tweak the look and feel of it soon. Regarding categories, we created a Daring Bakers and TWD (Tuedays with Dorie) category since they are the two biggest groups around. You'll find a lot of posts in Pot Luck that need to be re-categorized.
  3. Submission preview - we are working on this and also improving the whole submission/login process. We think it's important to spend the time and nail the user experience with this enhancement.
  4. RSS feed links - not related to the redesign, but the image links in the feed go directly to the submitter's site. Just want to let you know.

Love the re-design! (As a bonus, it's now much more legible for people with visual difficulties.)

I just wanted to say that I love the site and think you're doing a great job. I especially like that we're able to check our submission status and that you provide submission review updates via Twitter. Very helpful information. Keep up the good work!
